Before summer I think our SIMS was upgraded from 7.91 to 7.93. Now its upgraded to 7.95
Workstations that got the 7.93 upgrade seem to upgrade to 7.95 fine, but ones that never got the 7.93 upgrade refuse to upgrade at all now. This includes 50+ that we took an image for in June and imaged over the holidays
What happens is the 'Checking for updates' appears for ages but you never see the Solus screen. After about 30 seconds you see the splash screen (stating 7.91) and then the login box.
Whereas normally the Solus update dialog comes up after one or 2 seconds when an upgrade is available.
I tried the 'Update and run Solus' option in the start menu and that doesnt seem to do anything either.
Short of reinstalling on all 50 machines, is there a way to force an upgrade? Ive done a few today but its going to be hell tomorrow if we cant find a way round this.

Have you tried running SIMSApplicationSetup.exe from the Setups directory on your SIMS server?

I havent. What should that do?
Always been told not to run anything except simsinst.exe
Would application setup just upgrade it then?

I have the same problem and was given the same advice by SIMS support, i.e. run SIMSApplicationsetup.exe manually on each machine, and yes, you have to go around the whole school doing each one. What joy!

Yes, when you run SOLUS on the server, it upgrades the Setups - running SIMSApplicationSetup will install the latest client on the PC.

I found this solution a few weeks ago - just forgotten to post until now
No re-installation of anything is needed, all that needs to be changed (in our case) is the sims.ini file in c:\windows. The line with SIMSSetupsDirectory= was set to our old server still. So a quick batch file and it was sorted on all machines
So the councils guarantee that 'you wont have to change anything, all the clients will pick up the new server' was a load of crap

Yes indeed you have to change the sims.ini file if you've moved servers, you will also need to ensure that the connect.ini and finance machines are setup right(assuming you use FMS that is). For the FMS machines you will need the finance if in the sims.ini. As for the connect.ini, this apply to those pesky workstations that for whatever reason wont work when you point it to the s: drive so you have to point it directly to the server.
If you need to run simsapplicationsetup.exe, you dont have to go round every computer and do it, you could just run a script to do it when the computer boots up and theres a thread on this forum that tells you how to do an upgrade on workstations using a bootup script.
