SIMS Hanging/not responding
I having a problem with Sims hanging/not responding when running reports for 1 of my admin users that has mandatory profiles with appdata redirect to a generic folder on our file server and redirected start menu. I have another admin user that doesn't have a profile and they can run the reports with no problems, both user have local admin rights on the PC. Can any one shed any light on what may be causing this or anyone else running mandatory profiles using sims?

24th January 2013, 03:26 PM #2 We had a similar issue and edited the connect.ini on the users local PC.
We added the line CommandTimeout=100000 and this helped, you can increase the number as you see fit.

What version of Office are the users on?
What type of reports are they running? Data intensive reports like assessment marksheets, or simple reports like class lists?
Could be an issue with SIMS caching the data for the report in the tmpSimsRpt folder..

25th January 2013, 07:26 PM #7 Report creation likes the local app data folder. I think local low and is a pain with roaming profiles. Not sure what it will do with roaming.
i know it helped to wipe out old xp profiles and recreate new win 7 ones. Plus make sure the office 2010 Word patches / hotfixes are installed. Someone will recall them or they are in another thread.

26th January 2013, 02:26 PM #8 If it's a standard report from Capita, it may well be worth reimporting the report definitions from the latest upgrade. We've had some weird issues before where reports run really slowly and reimporting them has fixed it (issues ranging from everybody affected, individual users affected and all buyt one user affected)

Are you using Offline File Sync for users Home drives? When this is enabled, it causes issues with caching when SIMS try's to access the tempSimsRpts folder.
Also worth adding the users home drive to trusted sites.
I guess it's covered by WSUS, but may be worth double checking that the Primary Interop Assemblies are installed. This hotfix works wonders at fixing odd reporting issues!

31st January 2013, 10:48 AM #14 Just as a generic note, there's an hotfix patch from MS for Word that fixes a lot of issues with Reports that we have. We often find it'll hang reports, or only print off 1 page then refuse to print anymore etc, and this fixed them all for us.
Might be worth a shot, but might be completely different issue for you

I was going to add this to my post too as likewise we apply it and it fixes a lot of odd issues with reports not printing correctly, but assumed it would be covered by WSUS.
