Re: SIMS August Main Release is here

    Nick,

The choice is entirely yours. You have to edit the connect.ini file to turn on Windows Authentication - so if you do not make any change, the usual SIMS login box will continue to appear - with users being required to separately log into SIMS.

However, if you wish to remove the ability for your staff to separately log into SIMS - then you can do this, by pointing the users in System Manager to their domain/username - and modifying the Connect.ini to say Connectiontype=trustedauto or Connectiontype=trusted. Full details are in the System Manager handbook.

But - be reassured. The authentication method for SIMS does not change, unless you manually change the settings. Therefore, after upgrading to the August Release, the authentication method will still be SIMS and not Windows.

    Regards,

Re: SIMS August Main Release is here

    Hi,

Just bitten the bullet and done the August upgrade via Solus after assurance from LEA Tech Support that it's all been tested and runs ok.

Upgrade progressed okay but now can't log in to SIMS.Net. Either on the Server or on clients.

Get the "Sims connection failed for login [name], reason: 7" error message.

LEA Tech Support now not answering phone and a search for KB71595 has proved fruitless. Hair on floor.

    Anyone help?

God help us when we come to do the SQL2005 conversion/upgrade.

log in as sysman and password

    a) reset all the passwords by hand
    b) explain to staff on the most chaotic day of the year they have new passwords and they have to change them when they log in with the temp one you gave them.

    GOD BLESS SIMS

Must be another issue as I can't log in using the SYSMAN acc and password which I know is correct.

Mine wouldn't log in with the Sysman account but it was after I updated to SQL 2005. It was to do with the SQL authentication method.

Note that this is if you have detached the SIMS database and attach it to another SQL server instance on the same or different server.

@Tech_Guy have you moved SIMS to another server?

    Hi,

No, all we've done is the August Sims.Net upgrade - nothing else. Sims.Net DB is still on the same server.

Sigh. So you can only dowload and apply an update once I see. It would be nice if solus checked the VERSION rather than assume if you dowloaded it you don't need it again.

I reverted my VM snapshot as I had a scheduled task interupt the process, and now I can't get solus to give me any updates. Just exactly what you would want if you had to restore from backup outside of school hours.

I'm downloading the CD instead as I have around 12 hours to get 2005/aug/sql fms going.

Oh I also PAY them money to get the updates released late. I kept being told the august release wasn't out.

LEA broke my server - not fair!

So does anyone know how to fix my "Sims connection failed for login [name], reason: 7" error message?

I get that error now too. All I've done is run the august upgrade. Nothing else has been changed. Investigating...
