SIMS Uploading Student Images
Morning all,
I am having a problem doing a batch import of student photos by admission numbers,
I have applied a patch capita have given me & run vaildate memberships & run system diagnostics but with no joy.
The error I am getting after a few minutes once pressing search files is: Out of Memory. : System Out Of Memory Exception - Fault Code: 8706-5382-5000
This happens if trying from a desktop or the server.
Anyone else had a similar issue and how to resolve?
Thanks

**RESOLVE**
Problem resolved, over 1000 photos in one folder so split them across 4 folders now works....

3rd November 2012, 06:24 AM #3 Another thing you could try is to filter by reg group rather than year group on the import screen, this should let you look at the whole folder but only match on your filter. You then have to repeat this a few times.
I've recently dropped the size of photos we take and it's made the whole job a lot easier.

3rd November 2012, 12:17 PM #4 This error appears because it does a lot of the processing on the client PC. This means that it uses a hell of a lot of your system memory.
You are best to do the photos in batches of about 15. Close all programs apart from sims. Do a import and then close sims down, because it still hogs a load of memory after importing the photos.
I know it is a pain but it is the only way that I have found to do it.
Have fun!

3rd November 2012, 01:22 PM #5 I normally do a year at a time (~100) and it's not usually that bad, but it depends on the size of the photos.
Closing SIMS in between uses does help though. It also likes to lock onto the last used photo / folder and won't let you move or edit them, until you either do another update or close SIMS, but a lot of windows programs behave similarly.

27th November 2012, 08:08 AM #7 I don't think it matters so long as they are in the correct order, so the easiest way to do that is to name them as lastname_firstname, as per how it shows in SIMS. You'd have to check if it's using preferred name or legal name, usually it's something ridonculous like preferred surname and legal forename.
try it with only 2 photos, and search by reg group, then you have to untick all kids bar two, and it will highlight the attach button.
i never do it this way, it's much better to import by admission number.
i have a script that renames the files which are named by name to admission number if required.

28th November 2012, 08:01 AM #9 It's not anything special, just a batch file, that requires a text file that you need to create with the names and admission numbers in it.
It will only work if the current files are named as per something you can extract from SIMS, i.e. first and last name. I normally do an export from SIMS of the names and admission numbers into Excel then concatenate it all to add the .jpg, so it says vik_paw.jpg and A00001.jpg and then paste it into a text file. That's probably the hardest bit, since half our admission numbers are just numeric and excel doesn't want them to show as text, and the other half have the 'A' prefix.
