When VS 2008 was installed a open profile was used but i found that the 'configuring' message was still displayed on startup. By only allowing read access to the .vssettings file solves this problem however when you exit the program you get an error message saying it cannot save settings (which is to be expected) we are still having various error reports from projects and are going through these at the mo to see if they are human error of if they are caused by restrictions we have imposed.

Hi, I noticed you got around the first time configuration settings with students using mandatory profiles. Did you simply provide read only access to the CurrentSettings.vssettings file to prevent the startup or was there something else? Additionally, when you setup VS 2008, did you create the student profile using an account with an open roaming profile at the same time during the install?
