Apple iMac G4 20 Inch

Hello All,

At the weekend I bought a 20 inch Apple iMac G4 (the one with the chrome swivel arm attached to the dome based cpu) for £100 with Mac OS X Snow Lep on it, and also came with brand new apple keyboard and brand new apple mouse. I bought this from a car boot and it works well. Can anybody tell me if I got this for a good price?

Also it takes DDR ram (not DDR2 or DDR3), which only seems to come in the size of 1GB Max. Can anybody tell me where I can get 2GB of DDR ram (Laptop size).

Does it actually work with Snow? Seeing G4s dont have an Intel CPU (PowerPC iirc), and Snow Leopard requires one? Thought it'd have a bit of an emo.

Sorry I think its just standard lep. I am 100% its Mac os X

Assuming you're not after doing major upgrades etc to it (aka it doesn't support Intel or w/e), I'd say it's a good price. I mean majority of 20inch monitors on their own cost a far whack 2nd hand still.

But as a secondary computer, yeah I'd say decent price!

PPC CPU's could only go as far as Leopard ( 10.5 ), snow leopard ditched support for PPC.

Yes Mac OS X ( as in roman numerals so thus being 10 which was anything from 10.1 , 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 and currently 10.7 )

I only started using OS X since 10.4 ( tiger ), 10.5 ( leopard ), 10.6 ( snow leopard ) and finally 10.7 ( Lion )

As for the RAM Question I would check both Crucial and OWC

You can order OWC RAM through www.memoryc.com or direct from the OWC site but then if you order it direct you obviously may get charged tax, customs and excise duty charges etc etc

Just be careful as I recall the the iMacs had 2 different RAM slots, one you could get to easily(that took laptop size memory) and another that required taking the main board out (took the larger style memory chips)...

£100 is probably a good price. It's perhaps one of the good things about owning a mac (or used to be) is the resell value is usually a good one.

I bought an iMac G3 from cash converters for £20 :D
