SOS mac beep!
Hey, got a imac giving out a sos beep. beep beep beep- 3 longer beebs - 3 short ones. Screen wont turn on or anything, lots of kids coursework on there really need to try and salvage it! I have another identical model of mac which is out of warrenty and has a problem with screen so i can use pieces from them both to get one working! :P But really need the one with the sos working becuase the hard drive is valuble.
any other mac you can hook it up via target disk mode?
Have you reset the PRAM? To do this, boot the machine and hold P + R + Command + Alt.
You may need to do this a couple of times.
Multiple Beeps at Boottime is usually indicative of a RAM Module failure of some sort. On the affected mac reseat the RAM Modules and try again. If that fails go through the normal troubleshooting procedures you use to eliminate bad/faulty RAM module(s). Swop the modules around to eliminate a faulty slot. Remove one and leave one in. Take modules from a known equivalent working mac and try those instead etc.
Troubleshooting RAM is no different on a Mac than it is on a PC.
If none of the above works you still have the option of taking it to your nearest Apple Repair Specialist for further diagnosis and repair. All macs come with a year's warranty as well as the option to extend it a further two years.

We had this problem on a few, they needed to go back to our apple supplier as the needed a new logic board, if they are under a year old or under 3 years if you have apple care they should do this free of charge.
Hope this helps,
