Binding Lion Client (OSX 10.7.2) to Leopard Server (OSX 10.5.8)

When I try to bind Lion Client to Leopard server it gives the message:
The server does not provide a secure (SSL) connection. Do you want to continue ? If I say yes then it joins the OD.
The Computer account does not show in Work Group Manager.
If I try to add the computer account manually in the workgroup manager it gives the message:
The name you have chosen conflicts with name assigned to another computer.

If anybody has a solution please let me know.

Upgrade the server to Lion. Seriously, that appears to be the only solution here. I have a Snow Leopard server, and the Lion clients cannot be managed from it (though users on those clients can still be managed). I'll just have to upgrade it at some point, with some backups in place first!
