Hi
I have a problem with my MacBook pro (Feb 2011 model), it has 8GB Ram and before Lion and Fusion 4 I ran snow leopard and fusion 3 and had it set for 4GB of ram for a 64bit window 7 VM and everything was happy. Now I start my machine up run fusion and by the end of the night all my ram is gone. I’ve now set the VM to 2 GB ram and fusion is still using it all. It’s using over 5 GB of free ram; I think it’s some kind of memory leak because you can watch it go down.
I have thought about reinstalling Lion from DVD, because I did it from upgrade.
Anyone else have this problem?

13th December 2011, 03:21 PM #2 I would be tempted to re install Lion fresh ( not upgraded ) and also ensure that VMWare fusion is up to date.

13th December 2011, 03:26 PM #3 Fusion is uptodate even the update which fixes the issue where it doesn’t check for an apple licence when doing a Mac OSX VM
Might be a x-mas job to rebuild my mac

13th December 2011, 03:38 PM #4 I am now having similar problems with Parallels ... and since I tend to run my VMs from an external USB2 drive it is not happy. Drive I/O is fine but RAM is a pig, I don't have the issue on a locally hosted VM though. I'm looking at a rebuild over Xmas too, just waiting on seeing whether I swap my home system about first.

12th January 2012, 04:16 PM #5 Well over X-mas I rebuilt the MacBook and it seems to make the issue worse. There are loads of memory issues on the VMware forum site but none seem to match up with my issue. Hopes there’s a 4.2 update for fusion soon to fix this.

13th January 2012, 11:23 AM #7 Check out VirtualBox if its an option? There has an update just 2 days ago. They have the ability now to create HDDs for both Parallels VMs and VMware VMs I think.

25th January 2012, 02:27 PM #8 Well i've found the cause of the problem Safari. If i run safari anytime before or during running fusion the system runs out of memory.
