just finishing off my mac installation and was wondering if i can install sophos on the macs from my current endpoint console which is on a 2008 server or do i need to setup the console on my mac server and push it from that.

Well I'm sure endpoint security doesn't exist for the mac osx server. You need to install it manually and point it to update to your windows network share it updates from.
Yes you can. On your endpoint console under "library", on the left it has ( i think) recomended. Clicking on this should give you a list of packages you can download for different clients. I think thats the path, not at a server to confirm.
Select the ones and let it download.
I can't remember if the console will pick up the mac on the server doing a nerwork scan but you can install manually from \\serverwithSECinstalled\sophosupdate
Then choose the mac download package.
