Creating a "How-To" on Image Deployment (Video & Booklet) - Suggestions

I'm now kicking myself into gear to create a "How-To Deploy" document for mass image deployment. I've been meaning to do this over this past summer so I could pass the info onto fello Techs but because of lack of time to sit and do it I put on a couple sessions with the Techs coming from around the provine to the session instead since they were in the city for another session.

Anyways .... seeing that I'm going to do this anyways I'm not going to do it as both a instructional video to show step by step & documents on the following:

> Setting up a DS Server (shares, users, netboot)
> Image Customization (How to create your ideal lab image for deployment)
> DS Customizing of Workflows (ad & od binding, image creation, image deploying, etc.)

These will be done with simplicity in mind so I'll try to make it straight forward. Just reading How-To's is not always great for those that need visual or hands on experience so I really want to make the videos. With this I'll include a few custom scripts/automator tasks that I have made to make life easier when it comes to creating customized lab images.

With this said, is there anything else around the topics above that people would like to see covered?

Most likely not .... but what do you need a hand with. It's easy to setup a server and get things going and if it's something I can help you with now I can see what I can do.



I am very interested in your results. This is a huge problem for us as we currently don't have an imaging solution for our Macs. I anxiously await your results.

I'd be very interested in this as i had to manually do 5 macbooks last week with dual boot / bootcamp and setup manually. No easy ghostcast, it was a right task but i didnt have enough time to build a image server and do it but i'm sure when our mac suite needs re-doing your guide would be a god send!

I was rather busy last week but in my spare time I was able to get a computer setup with OS X 10.6 SL Server. Going to try and do the videos this week then edit them to throw online.


