Have you seen the "I'm a PC and I'm a MAC" ads? Sums the situation up perfectly.

Well no, it sums up Mac vs Windows, not Mac vs PC as they claim. What about Linux?

What about OS/2 ?

In a nutshell - who bloody cares [ as stewart says ] - it does the job.
Personally - I hate anything Apple related. Nothing more than a fashion icon.

Or view the British version @ http://www.apple.com/uk/getamac/ads with the guys from "peep show".

I almost fell off my chair with the propaganda Apple was spewing out - since when does any OS contain pie charts?!?

Don't get confused between the OS and the software that runs on the OS (of which Windows has by far the greater amount of supported software)

I have always found a PC a lot more flexible in getting what we need done as well as being more cost effective in terms of repairs, upgrades and support.

Also you may want to survey what kids/staff use when not at school, you are trying to make ICT an aid to teaching and learning, not adding to the workload.

and finally Apple stole lots of ideas off Microsoft and implemented them quicker (and better) but that is big businesses for you.

Whatever you do, don't search for Apple versus Microsoft or you will get swallowed into a world of bickering fanboys/girls.

We have some of these on bus stops in Minehead!?! I didn't see what they were trying to say in these ones as the PC was a guy in a suit and looked like a respectable businessman and the Mac was a guy in scruffy clothes looking a bit dodgy...

Also, what about BeOS? (Well ZetaOS now). I like that OS, if only it were developed more!

I think you need to provide some elaboration for that one.

Where do you get your information from? Look at any new features in Vista and I will name a technology some of them years old that were there first, for instance Aero looks alot like Suns Looking Glass. There is not really anything new in Vista. At least when Apple changed its Os strategy it built a new kernel based on BSD API and Mach API, and did not stick with the same rubbish we have suffered for years. Okay they have made enhancements but for all we know they could just be more patches to the ever growing sea of windows source code.

We have MACs, Linux and XP in the school; the order I've listed them in is the reverse of the hours spent supporting them, which XP taking a disproportionate amount of time, especially stall laptops. I personally find Linux the easiest to support - familiarity helps. The MAC Books never, ever go wrong - the staff love them!

Both Microsoft and Apple stole their ideas from Xerox/PARC. Gates looked at the work of PARC (the Xerox Alto) and rightly decided that his DOS offering was extremely primitive in comparison, and the rest as they say is history.

I can't trust a company that genuinely think that PC is a brand. Even less a computer company - Apple really grates on me... compare yourself to a VAIO or Alienware if you dare - generic beige boxes can't fight back

The thing is, yes Macs are stable and reliable, but, if Microsoft said 'You must use this graphics card, this motherboard, this chipset, this southbridge, this audio, this monitor etc etc' then Windows would be solid too.

The price you pay for freedom and choice.

Yikes - what was that I said about fan boys?
@petectid: i never said microsoft didn't copy anything, in fact i was trying to state the opposite, any way in terms of "evidence" (to which no-one can really prove anything) read through http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...rd_preview.asp

We use about 8 macs throught the school because they were donated to us and they are free to be used by anyone who feels the urge.

Linux. OS X, yeah, great - it's based on BSD. But Apple - no better as a company than Microsoft are. Vista is just ridiculous.
