The Art teachers here have some eMacs circa 2004 that for some reason they didnt pay extra to have DVD drives in them, and now of course they want to play DVD's
Last year we did order a Freecom USB2 drive assuming as it was USB it would work on OSX and Windows but the eMac wasnt having any of it, and we found later the box said it explicitly wasnt compatible with Macs
Are there any brands that definately are compatible? Any in white would be an added bonus

Find the most expensive, shiny device available and it will probably be Apple-compatible

Hi
Messing with the internals of an eMac is not for the faint hearted. Get a Firewire DVD drive compatiblity is much much better (FW being an Apple technology, I would recommend FW for all devices over USB, better continuous data through put). Also be aware that if you opt fro DVD-R of some kind not all iLife aps will write to it.

Re: External USB2 DVD-RW for Macs?
The eMacs will happily use Pioneer 109/110/111s or Sony GU100Es, they'll just need a quick flash.
This is the best way of going as Apple's iDVD and earlier versions of DiscBurner will only work for 'Apple' internal drives.
try span.com (about £30 each)

Ah, Solutions Inc. are here! I'm looking forward to being back down your way next month for your Mac Server OS course.
http://www.patchburn.de/ might be of interest, it opens up the Mac burning interfaces to work with a lot more drives.

Leo and Mark were very kind to help us out on the stand at BETT. Both of them were intrigued by the idea of the forums and were happy to spend time going through unanswered Mac posts.

Glad to have them here, I've got pretty high standards for suppliers and trainers and Solutions Inc are on my 'preferred' list, instead of the considerably longer 'kill' list.
