Workgroup Manager Not Applying Preferences
Hi,
New to the site but its helped me vastly over the past week or two! I hope someone will be able to help with my latest issue no amount of googling has been able to resolve this yet!
We have a mac server running OD, I have 10 Imacs (snow leopard) connected to said OD Master Server (snow leopard) and users are able to login with their network accounts.
Looking on the client imacs they are sucessfully connected to the server, Ive added the computers in WGM using the Ethernet ID and IP address and have a group called Mac Suite.
I must be missing something fundemental as no matter what I try I can not get WGM to enforce any preferences onto the workstations or users, this previously worked before rebuilding the server. I have reimaged all the workstations.
I wondered if it could be a DNS releated issue as in ARD3 the DNS names are incorrect, I can connect to machines fine and users can connect to all network resources (shared areas, home directories on both mac and windows boxes)
Here is a list of trouble shoooting steps I have taken thus far...none have worked;
Disabled DNS on the OD server and used our internal windows DNS as the server address
Refreshed the cache on all clients
Tried using DHCP over a manually address, rebooted refreshed IP
Any ideas on where to go, ideally Id like to WGM applying preferences otherwise Im screwed come first week back!!!!!!!!]
Thanks in advance for any input

Many thanks for taking the time to reply!
Sadly Ive removed all user preferences and solely have computer preferences applied at the moment.
Ive setup a few macs before but havent got a clue what could be causing this!

Hiya,
hope the following info helps;
On the clients under the login option the network account server is listed as macserver.local
The clients all have static DHCP addresses and are using our networks DNS servers
User accounts can login and pull profiles fine, save work etc
The server is setup as macserver.local
Let me know if there is anymore info that would be useful, Im guessing Ive missed something fundemental along the way of setting up the server......................

In your initial post you wrote that you added the machines to WGM by Mac address and IP address. If you properly bound the machines to the network (in Accounts preferences or Directory Utility on the clients) then it should automatically create the machine account in WGM. I would start by deleting the machine accounts you created in WGM and then re-binding your clients. (Just adding the machines by MAC address and IP address would not give you control over their preferences since there is no way of knowing if that machine trusts your server).
Good luck!

Oh how frustrating this is...
Hi there
This is a bit of a necro thread, but i really thought i must impart what i have learnt about this in case any others are having the same problem and need an answer that works.
What I found was that in the Computers list (not Computer Groups), is that I could see computers in there that had old computer names (from when i initially imaged and bound to the OD).
If you have renamed your machines this could be your problem.
Delete the machines out of the Computer group, delete any OLD machine names out of Computers List, put the machines back into the Computers Group. Ta Da, now working right as rain, right?
