    Bootcamp enviroment in school

    Hey folks,

Been a while since i been on here glad to see its still growing

Now i have returned back to my old job and they have just bought 65 macs are intending to bootcamp XP onto them. Just wanted some of your opinions because i am quite worried that this is going to be a suicide mission

I am presently rebuilding my OSX Server now as part of redoing our management of Macs and this will include BootCamp (Parallels is just not suitable in this case).

Add me to your MSN buddies and we can compare notes.

@Kingswood: fancy meeting up for lunch and a chat about this too?

@Roberto: mind if I rack your brains too? I have a few ideas about home areas that are slightly different to yours and want to check you haven't already tried them and scrapped them.

Don't you need a Full XP license (or a full something to upgrade from)? As you can't buy it with XP and you can't use OEM. If you do, then its going to be quite expensive.

No problem i am quite interested to see what everyone else is doing with bootcamp. Its a shame that they have just gone out and bought the 65 macs. Just wish they listened to my warnings its like putting vista out in beta stages.

Grumble have you seen any software which does not run on bootcamp?

Try and pick up old copies of windows 9x or 3.1/3.11 and then pickup XP upgrades on a select licence.

Works out cheaper ... but they are becoming harder to get hold of.

As I understand it, an OEM licence has to be bought with a computer, a hard drive, a CPU or a motherboard. As long as you buy the OEM licence with the Mac (ie put it on the same order) I don't see the problem.

Why would you want Bootcamp in a school?

As long as you get them *with* the machines, and there is nothing in the terms about using OEM bundled with another os and you should be fine.

We have a few pieces of music software that are PC only ... I would still like to be able to offer them to students when needed ... until I can get everyone hooked on garageband ... which everyone who has used it so far is ...

    Hi

We purchased via genuine advantage tool, I am not sure if you still get your educational discount but we got ours for £92. To do this you just need to do a windows update and the genuine advantage tool gives you the option to purchase. A key is emailed and a disk sent in the post.

You do know that boot camp runs out September 2007, we will be trying Leopard later in the week, I will let you know how it is.

What do you mean by 'it runs out'? It stops working? Or not supported?

I found this in point 3 here

    http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/terms.html

I am not sure what it will do, but they will want you to buy leopard as bootcamp will be integrated and is currently beta.
