Creating an os 10.5 server replica
Hi All,
I learned from a near catastrophic incident (imagine about 150 teachers yelling at you about not being able to login) that I am going to require a 10.5 replica server. Currently I dont have one in place, from what I understand it only replicates the user login info but none of the user data. Has anyone set a replica 10.5 server up? If so how do you get to both their accounts and data if the other server should fail? Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thank You,

8th November 2008, 09:31 AM #2 Hi there,
If your OD master gets taken offline permanently (for whatever reason) you can simply promote a replica to become the new OD master. Replicas on the OS X network already contain the data that the system needs- the only caveat being that if you have other replicas on your network they will need to be taken to standalone and then have to be rebound to the new OD master
Your LDAP search domains and kerberos realm should stay as they were.
You can use slapconfig to do the replica promotion if you like too.

OS 10.5 Server Replica
Kingswood,
I must have a skewed view on how the replica server works. I
guess I thought that as soon as the main server went down it
automagically failed over to the replica server (am i wrong?). I
noticed that you said after your main server gets back up and
going that you have to demote the replica and repromote your
main server. My main goal is to have something in place when
the
hits the fan (a.k.a short term network problems). What
do most people do in these situations besides a replica? Also does
the replica have all of the users data avail? I know im asking you
alot of questions that I should probably have the answers to but
Im just trying to research the best route to take.
