    Online imaging software

    Hi

We have been presented with a great system for viewing publications (newspapers and magazines) online. It works excellently, working from PDF's and offers a good online version with the minimum of effort (feed in the necessary PDF's...)

An example can be viewed at
    http://www.inewspaper.co.uk/globe
    (it requires Windows!)

Whilst using the flip over page system is not new, the ability to zoom into the pages and keep good clear text fast and online is excellent. My problem is that it will not work on a Mac and my boss requires that I find something which will (the company which offers the system will not say when a Mac version will be ready)!

Does anyone know of anything similar or any developers who are working on anything similar?

    thanks

    Steve

Sounds a bit like you need Zinio to me ... I get IT Week delivered this way now but not too sure what the method of designing your own mags is.

there is an open source flash file out there which will create a magazine type booklet, although it does lack the zoom function,

    its called pageflip,http://www.iparigrafika.hu/pageflip/ its free.

it does require some knowledge of flash, but its pretty straight forward once you've messed about with it for a while.

Ive worked round the zoom function by creating pdf file embeded within a webpage when the flash page is clicked, so for each page there is a padf file which when clicked loads, so you have zoom function and ability to print specific pages.

but obviously it requires flash plugin?

we like it, use it for the school prospectus online.

if you like i can send you and example?

Presumably you could print things to flashpaper, which comes as part of the newest Macromedia suite. I'd guess that more people have the Flash plugin than have ActiveX. The authoring software doesn't seem to be available on Macs, but the output files will work fine in Mac browsers. You won't have to pay inewspaper to host your files either.

Here's an example output from macromedia's site:

    http://www.macromedia.com/software/f...ntdoor_doc.swf

That's full size, but you could embed it at any size in a webpage.

If you don't qualify for educational licensing, it's £49+VAT per copy or £469 for a 10-pack.

    Re: Online imaging software

Thanks for the help. All of the options give me something to work with plus I have found www.PageSuite.co.uk who offer a full cross browser version.

    thanks again
