Am on my power book G4 12" and I went to the sourceforge site and am not sure which installation package of gaim I need and how do I install it once I get it ?
Thx
ok Downloaded x11 but it says it cant install it because there is already newer software installed, does that mean I need to fix somthing to install x11 or what do I do ?
Ahhh...you might need "Darwin Ports" for this. See here:
http://gaim.darwinports.com/
:-)
you have mail lolLets just say I got fire
gave up on gaim lol

I don't use Fire or Gaim ... I use the seperate apps ... if I wanted only to use a single IM I would ... but it is the extras that you get with some of them that I want. I would never use anythin but iChat with my .Mac account ... and MSN Messenger does perfectly well ... and I now only use the rest on the PC.
I dont have a.Mac account yet, that will have to wait untill I get paid again
But Im defintly coming to ya school on the 14 thBring my power book with me and maybe learn some stuff on there as well he he he.
I got a back pack with a pocket on one of the straps so I can hook up my nano.
Really enjoying using the mac, back on my pc for a little bit.
BTW dont spose you know how long it will be and what time you want us there and all of that with regards to the mac stuff on the 14th ?
Have you tried this Tony?Originally Posted by GrumbleDook

Brilliant little IM with lots of plugins (or gubbins as someone on here says). Thought you might like it. I loaded it this morning and it's pretty darn good.
Paul

I tried it a few times last year but was having too many problems with it crashing and locking up the first version I tried, and then the later version would not keep an ICQ session going and people thought I was attached to a virtual bungee the way I was bouncing on and off ...
As with all of these IM clients I will go back and revisit them once every so often ... usually just before I do a 6 monthly rebuild of my Mac so that if things go wrong ....
whatever they did to it, it seems to work for me![]()
If you want to go down the sourceforge route for your mac i would highly reccommend fink
that looks good, id love to know what im doing wrong with configuring my mac to access my pc though, I know I have dhcp back on as I enabled that to allow me to surf the net again. as far as Im aware ive left the rest the same.
The only thing I can think of is that maybe its xpee f'ing up cos accessing my mac from the windows machine is fine but it wont let me do it the other way around.
Put an account on our Mac that has the same username and password as the one you are using on your Windows machine. Use the correct short name.
Then try using:
smb://x.x.x.x/YOUR_SHARE_NAME
Login using your account.
I've seen this sometimes too when Windows is encrypting passwords. If the above doesn't work, let me know.
You obviously have to use the Connect to Server menu item and prefix the above with your protocol (i.e. SMB)
i will bring it in tommorow and you can check the configuration and im not gonna even touch it now cos im at the point where ill throw the mac into the DAMMED wall literally.
I think you could do with some anger management techniques yourself! And patience. Lots of it.
Things in the interoperability world between Windows and 'Nix (including OS X here) aren't as simple as you would want them to be. But it can and does work. At home I share (using SMB) between a local account on both Windows XP and Mac OS X; I can then use different accounts and log on to either my 2003 Server or OS X Tiger Server (form either OS). Was it easy to setup? Not really.
Does it work though? Yes. It can be high maintenance- but if you bought your Mac so that you could network, you would have been better taking the school's offer of a Windows laptop to learn 2003 Server on. Would have saved you this stress ;-)
