I had the FrontRow hack working on my PowerBook. It's pretty good, apart from the fact that it is very buggy. Obviously no remote control. Hoping to get Salling Clicker working with it, that would be superb!
If it wasn't for the lack of any decent speed and all the bugs, I'd be constantly using it...just for the effects!...unfortunately the bugs (it is an unofficial hack after all) just make me not want it.
Mind you, it's been a while, maybe the latest hack versions are much better and bug free!
It's a superb piece of software though!...my friend has a new Intel Core Duo iMac, FrontRow is just superb!
Just out of curiousty .... what good is front row if you dont have a remote and how would you use it exactly ?
That's half my point! It's not that functional! It's still a great fun program to use...can be fully controlled via keyboard, and I think Salling Clicker, so all is not totally lost. As long as you have a little patience with it if it isn't the proper official version that you get with iMacs and MacBook ProsOriginally Posted by gecko
I have the Apple Remote that I use with the Universal iPod dock...unfortunately the dock doesn't double as an IR for my PowerBook so my PowerBook cannot pick up the IR from the remote.
what power book have you got ? I just got the 12" version last saturday
Also does that website explalin how to use it or get it etc etc ? If not then how do you do it exactly
I have a maxed out 12" PowerBook. 1.5GHz. 1.25Gb RAM. 100Gb HDD. Superb machine! Got it when Tiger became installed as standard.
Congrats on your purchase!!
I originally got the FrontRow hack as soon as it came out on the Internet about a week after Apple released it! It was very buggy. The source was from digg.com.
I've just done a quick search on digg.com again and come up with a superb site that seems to make FrontRow so much easier to hack...infact it uses Apple's own FrontRow 1.0.1 update download to install it...so it's almost near perfect!
I've given it a go and it works like a charm!...much better than the original hack I had.
I'm not sure how good the original link is in this thread, but this one works a treat.

Very easy and simple!
Enjoy!
I love Salling Clicker. Have it installed on my SDA so can access my mac minis iTunes library via bluetooth.
Although I really want to get a copy of Tiger so I can enable front row and make accessing my library using my TV and remote a doddle![]()
Don't know if you all have checked but the 1.2.2 update is ready now to be installed. Resolves the issue with the trailers server not responding.
If you have a bluetooth keyboard then its excellent and if not i read that the griffin airclick(?) remote works well.
Or the apple remote + Keyspan IR

I've got a macmini with a remote and frontrow and i've used it.... ohh twice now!
Until the latest update it was slow and buggy, it works great now, but I think past experiences have made me not want to use it.
Front row is best used with a HD TV. I've got my new Intel MacMini hooked up under the HDTV (next to the xbox 360!) with a extorsionately expensive HDMI to DVI cable. IT looks awesome on a big tv, the remote makes just like a media center on the pc.
I've also got EyeTV installed so I can record my favourite shows and then watch them using front row.
Frontrow and iTunes makes your macmini into a big ipod!
I leave the macmini on all the time, connected to the net and with www.foldershare.com installed I can access all my files whenever I want from whereever. Truely awesome.
MacMini's are the best, they are just so small and quiet and well behaved. My friend has a custom built media center, and its a beast! its huge, noisey (due to the large number of hard disks in it) and not very stable.
In the configuration I've got the MacMini under the TV and a wireless keyboard and mouse so there are not messy wires.

Have you checked out CyTV yet?
I have looked into this and it works very well indeed. quality ins't the best but if you play around with the settings you do get something viewable. Tried to get it set up in time for the world cup but didn't have enough time at the server end.
CyTV
I have mine running off the back of a Powermac G5 2Gb Ram, 64mb geforce 5200 (i think) so intel core duo should be good enough.
It can also be used with win boxes too.
Wow! CyTV is pretty awesome!
Thanks for the link.

No probs there is also a app that allows you to remotely listen to your iTunes library as well.
I have not got round to setting this up so i don't know how good it is...
Remote itunes Access
This link should point you in the right direction.
Have fun![]()
