DRAFTING TO BE UPDATED

Home directory set to automount.
Works if home directory is on a W2Ksp4 server (on of our DCs)
Does not work if home directory is on HP Storage Server (W2KR2sp1)
Errors we see are a grey/translucent ? in the dock where the home folder should be.
Trying to connect from Finder (Go->Connect to Server) give the following error:
The Finder cannot complete the operation because some of the data in "smb://server1" could not be read or written. (Error code -36).
In the console window the following errors are reported:
However if the Mac has been logged on for some time (seems likely this is 10+hrs) then the console log reports:
mount_smbfs: Ticket expired krb5_get_credentials
and the UI asks me for my username and password - at which point I can access the shares.

Where in AD is the Storage server? Is it in server with inheritance? We had this on a pure windows domain.

You need to make sure each folder before the students homefolder is read only to each student. If the users are not getting a home folder then they will get a default user account without anyd permissions because it cannot write the library preference files.
Also make sure the time is in sync had that problem aswell.
