Question AD home drive icon on dock in mountain lion

    Hi guys,

Anyone else having fun using profile manager in Mountain Lion ?. I have a mac mini running mountain lion server and workstations all running mountain lion.

They are bound to AD and OD but I cannot get the users mapped drive to show on the dock using profile manager anyone else having issues?. I have mapped a share to another folder with no problems.

I would use workgroup manager but it never seems to work correctly on our site since lion, settings not being applied or it is unable to find workstations so can't add them to a group.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Matt

Good to see a fellow Bristol person on the site

I have not had much success of using profile manager with managing mac clients. Personally I would get work group manager online.

I have sent you a PM Ross, Its been a while forgotten us already.

I would love to get Workgroup Manager working but have had nothing but problems with it finding machines on the domain and setting preferences on client machines.

    Sorry Matt lol.

What version of OSX you using now?

Apple is funny when it comes to finding machines with workgroup manager. I guess its changed since you had VLANS introduced to your network.

    Thats ok Mate,

we had Lion but had nothing but problems with it, so have just upgraded to Mountain Lion its better but profile manager is interesting, most of it is working but seems to be a bit random at setting preferences to users and workstations.

Lion 10.7 - 10.7.2 was a little dodgey! But its pretty solid now. I would say DNS or LDAP search base maybe an issue with workgroup manager but profile manager like I said I have avoided. Generally because it relys heavily on Apples Push services.

yea it was dodgy had loads of issues with it. Mountain Lion seems lots better and pretty quick at getting users logged on aswell. just need to get my head around profile manager (or apple to sort the bugs).

Otherwise I need to look at WGM again and see if I can get it working

You can run workgroup manager in the background alongside Profile manager because profile manager uses open directory. You can download workgroup manager for 10.8 and managed open directory that way and bind your machines to LDAP again. Only difference is that the bind will be secure and will require a username and password to connect. Atleast this way the machines will appear in workgroup manager.

Just downloaded Workgroup Manager again, but sure I have tried this. If I remove the machine from AD and rebind then go into WGM create a group and try and add the machine I just rebound it will not show in the list. Out of 36 Macs I have about 6 showing and none of them are the ones I need.....lol

Have you tried running workgroup manager on the same subnet?

That sounds odd. What about if you bind the machines to LDAP and clickk the + icon do they appear then?
