MY LEA are unable to block effectively because they are stupid.
Example:
You ask them to block say worldofwarcraft.com
So they block http://www.worldofwarcraft.com leaving open http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com and http://www.worldofwarcraft.co.uk and .net and .fr.
I tell them on many occassions to try blocking using * but they still do not get it. So now we bock via our own ISA server.
They really really are poor.

I have had a quick check and it has been used be a few students here, so I have been nasty ... I had a look at examstudies ... very nice site ... a little stupid of him to stick the links to who he is etc.
Someone might even drop a line to his college and let them know too ... and his college might be aware that they need to keep an eye on him now ...
Who would be so evil and nasty as to do that?
If that is his real name, and he has already been found out before with www.alevelwork.com, then he is very very stupid to post his details on there.
Already blocked here.
E2BN already have it blocked too.
no need to block it, sites with bad words still goes through the content filter and gets blocked, but I'm hating these flash games. Bloody pain, the internet is slow enough already without 2mb games being downloaded, and what's worse is that the teachers allow it.
I've found a new one (which is very useful) at myspacebypasser.com
Guess what our students use it to access?!
What is nuts is the new personalisation with google, the kids add chat, games and loads of other things on that, we managed to block it though MWHAHAHAHAAHAHAH
The little darlings here have set up there own. I wonder if Google would like the logo they've chosen?
http://www.igoive.tk/
LOL
They've put a terms and conditons page on the site even though its primary purpose is to circumvent someone elses T&C and AUP.
That's a bit rich bless 'em.

Re: examstudies.com
Look like the complaints have had an impact I get:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !
Excellent <rubs hands in a Mr Burns Style>.
We're picking up about 10 a day at least whan we vnc into the machines a lunch and break. I made a not of a couple of sites that have lists of them. I think one had over 750 listed. Unfortunatly the RM SafetyNet filtering that we use cannot import URLs so we have to put them in manualy. A job for the tech I think![]()
I think we'll put a Smoothwall box in between the RM SmartCache (spit) and the external to enable a more customisable upstream proxy.
As mentioned earlier if they stop using the obvious words like proxy, myspace, bebo etc they'll be a lot harder to pick up.

They are now starting to use foreign language proxie sites such as chinese here but are blocking them as and when we find them.

We're thinking about setting up a (secure) site with a list of said proxies that can be added to by people like us that need to catch these sites. Any takers?
