My apologies if this has already been posted - but I have done a search and could not find this link:-
http://gadgetshow.five.tv/jsp/speed_test.htm
Not sure how accurate it is, but does seem to give a rough indication of how good your internet connection is.
Just tested it in our 10Mb BGfL connection and got around 1.5Mb download speed.

Conspiracy! It's clear that The Gadget Show are halving the results of their speed tests so they can make good TV :P

I tried the gadget show one and wasn't impressed by what it reported.

that test is bought from Speedtest.net
then slammed on the gadget shows tv server so they can make publicity from it.
if you go on speedtest.net and click "buy a license" or something similar, it shows you :P
so you are taking the same test
but one will be against a datacenter (speedtest.net)
and one will be against a poor windows machine slammed in a corner, connected to the internet via a telegraph pole...

I prefer speedtest.net too.
speedtest reports around 8mb download, 4mb upload on our LEA connection. The gadget show site actually reported slightly higher figures for both!

hmmmm, you must of ran the test when there wasn't much telegraph activity :P
I had to run the test twice before it would Actually finish... its buggy i find.
speedtest.net one seems sound.

6th August 2010, 06:19 PM #9 IMHO the results from these speedtest websites are generally nowhere as accurate as going into your router config and checking your speed there. Even the ones that aren't plastered with adverts for a give ISP and blatently biased are not going to give you a true indication of your true speed, unless they happen to be hosted on machines that connect directly to you ISPs network and don't go through any other routers or switches.
