New Licence ID - will it break KMS?

    Hi,

We have recently changed from Select Plus to Open Value Subscription

I had a KMS server in place whilst we were testing Win 7 & Office 2010 which seemed to be working well.

If I log in to the Volume Licening Service Center I can see two sets of keys for Office 2010 (KMS) and Windows 7 (KMS).

My Select Plus at some point will expire so I presume I need to do something on the KMS server to change the licence codes for Office 2010 and Windows 7.

Also I cannot remember the exact procedure for setting up the KMS service - will that also require some changes - ie. is it somehow pointint at my old agreement codes and I need to edit that also to point at my new agreement codes.

Sorry if this is a bit basic but I find the whole licencing thing quite confusing

I'm glad you've asked this as I need to do this myself! My understanding is you remove the old KMS key and add the new one and everything will be fine.

I'm just trying to work out the commands to remove the keys and add new ones again as it's all done through command line.

The command to register a new key is:

    cscript \windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ipk <KmsSetupKey>

The command to uninstall a key, I think, is:

    cscript \windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /upk <KmsSetupKey>

    Anyone clarify?

From what I have read once the KMS Service is running it no longer contacts Microsoft so I guess apart from it needing it's KMS keys updating there should be nothing more to do....

I also have our KMS Server activating Office 2010 - so how do I edit the KMS keys for that?
Do I just repeat the ipk command with the office 2010 KMS key?

    On this article it states:

    slmgr.vbs /ipk <Office 2010 KMS host key>

    slmgr.vbs /ato <Office 2010 activation ID>

    I did:
    C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr -ipk <NEW WIN7 KMS CODE>

C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr -dli (said it was unlicenced)

    C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr -ato

    C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr -dli

Now everything looks as it should...

I will force some win7 test PC's to activate and see what happens....

    slmgr.vbs /ato <Office 2010 activation ID>
    How did you get this?

Also, did you remove the old key?

Edit: Ah, you do one or the other? So just slmgr.vbs /ipk <Office 2010 KMS host key>?

It may not work till the count is high enough, it may reset the count under the new id, should be fine with existing clients thanks to the activation standoff times built in to KMS (tries at random intervals before expireing old keys).

Did this to get Office 2010 working:

    C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr -ipk <New office 2010 KMS key>
C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr -dli (not licenced)

    C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr.vbs /ato bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d1
    6864

C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr -dli (licenced OK)

When I do this part, I get product not find. How do I find out the ID I need to supply as I'm guessing this is unique for each?

    C:\Documents and Settings\sadmin>slmgr.vbs /ato bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d1
