Installing xp pro on a new laptop with windows 7 ??
Hi, if we purchase new laptops with Windows 7 installed can we simply scrub that and install win XP Pro? Though we might even make a second partition and run it there?
Would this be covered by the licence the laptop comes with - as in a downgrade - or do we need to purchase a licence?
Thanks

I don't know the exact details, I don't get involved with the licensing, my best guess would be you can't downgrade to XP Pro if you only purchased Windows7 Home.
Take advice from your reseller about downgrade rights of the operating system they provide with the laptop.

True, you can only downgrade to the same or equivilant editions.
If you have Windows 7 Pro, you can install Windows XP Pro as you now get downgrade rights with OEM licenses. You'll need to contact your laptop supplier/maufacturer for this.
(See Downgrade Rights Details & FAQ)
If you have Windows 7 Home you'll need to buy Window 7 Pro upgrade licenses (about £35 each for schools) from a MS reseller which will allow you to downgrade to XP Pro.
