    XP Product code problems

    OK here goes,
One of my schools has just bought 30 netbooks and the additional licences for windows 7 pro, now they dont want windows 7 pro they want XP pro, which is fine as we made sure from the supplier that the licence we were getting would allow us to use either windows 7 or XP. Said supplier has emailed me a product key for Windows 7 and said the same code should work for XP.
I have tried installing XP using oem disks and VL disks, and cannot get it to accept this code as valid.

Now I thought that you wouldn't be able to use the same code for 7 and XP, am I wrong in thinking this?
    Or am I missing something?
Is there a special way of doing this installation?

Sounds to me like your supplier is wrong. You can't use Windows 7 codes with XP. I'd go back to them and ask them for a proper XP code.

If i remember correctly, at least with Vista, you had to phone Microsoft who would ask for you Windows Vista Key and exchange it for an XP Key if not Volume Licence. Not sure if they still do this now 7 is out.
