Where do you get quotes from for MS licensing?

    Hey,

We are looking into getting a school-wide license agreement and was wondering where people could recommend we get quotes from?

We are looking into deploying Windows 7 and Office 2007/2010 as new PCs are being put into place so was looking at the Schools Agreement.

    Thanks

    Have a look at:

Becta Schools - Resources - Software licences - New procurement framework for software licensing

From recent experience it is well worth getting lots of quotes and negotiating the suppliers down on price.

Thanks for this - even though this framework has been in place since 2008, made a first visit today. (Sorry not in the habit of trawling the Becta site, perhaps I should) I have asked the school Bursar previously, if such a mechanism was available, but she didn't know of one.

Does my lack of knowledge highlight what is being discussed in another thread with regard to Primary Schools and technical advice? It certainly begs a question of "How do I know that I don't know enough?" The simple answer is of course that I will never know enough.

You will find quotes vary on how big/greedy the company is - there is a base price they pay to ms for the stuff then the rests there profit so there is normally alot to barter over. We use a local company to us as when we get quotes of the big ones they tend to try and rip us off, whereas the little companys where 2k is alot to them they will tend to try and beat the big companies like Bt bus direct/insight etc

Our current supplier is Pugh Computers and they have been for many years.

We are currently in the process of reviewing our supplier but Pugh still looks very competitive.

Insight UK for myself and they are a brilliant supplier, I rarely use anyone else for these sorts of things as there pricing doesn't seem to be able to be beaten.

Got in contact with these guys, seems very promising and gave me a lot of information

As you guys say, will definitely get quotes from a fair of the people you've recommended.

Try your LEA as well. When we purchased a lot of licences with our new computers, they were the second cheapest out of all of the quotes and only missed out by a few pence.

Recently we've used Academia Ltd | Software, Hardware & Training to the Education & Non-Profit Sectors. and found them to be very competative and good.
