computers in AD
Right.....this is probably dead obvious but its got me scratching my head. :p
I absent mindedly placed some Laptops into an OU and now they've become part of the domain. My question is, how do i get them back to being local machines?
I've done this before and have basically moved the Laptop back out of the OU, but it doesnt seem to have made a difference. These machines arent ready to be on the domain yet and i need them to work locally again.
The one vista laptop with the problem gives me the tip Name\Local name...which i tried, to no avail.... So thats stopping me getting on locally...but if i can get on a machine is it a case of taking it off the domain locally...(right clicking my computer...etc).
If you mean standalone machines then yes, demote it to a workgroup in the same area of My Computer where you promoted it to a domain. Just make sure you know the local administrator password before you do this (just in case).
If you moved them into an OU (from, presumably, an AD 'folder') they were already part of the domain, you just weren't applying any policies except the default domain policy.
What They Said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^:)
Yup What they said :) Just Demote them from a domain computer to a workgroup. Change the admin password setup a local user account and maybe make a few changes to the local GPO
Crap, i thought that would be the case.....i couldnt get onto the vista laptop locally...
Powdermonkey explained it better then me! im not too great at explaining this stuff at the moment! :o
Right, 2 down....one to go...
Now the last one is the manky Vista laptop i was telling you about. Problem is i just cannot get in locally!! I cant even use my admin account to log onto the domain but can use my normal login (wierd). Im typing NAME\local user name like it suggests but to no avail.....any ideas?
erd commanders password reset works on vista so id just reset local admin password
