    Who's still using Netware ?

I still manage netware at one of my support sites.. It's netware 6. It's got AD running along side and both data bases are replicating with each other.

Who's still running netware and are you going to move completely over to Windows AD ?

Our Groupwise box is not used but the VM is still powered on just in case we have to go back to it that's on NW6.5 , and we have a OES box.

We had IDM running synking from ED to AD from Aug 2008 to Jan 2011 and it was spot on.

We realy miss lots of features of Netware and especialy Zenworks which we still think kicks everythign else into touch.

Poletics was the reason we were forced to move away.

Me too. PCONSOLE, anybody? Or is that too far back?

Our last server to go was a NW 3.14 with 8 Meg of memory - 8 MEG, not GIG, running happily for years without being rebooted or maintained. I know this because we forgot about it. It was in a cupboard, and we forgot to run Novell's year 2000 patch on it.

We 'progressed' to NT server, which needed daily reboots.

    Those were the days.

That brings back memories of when I was in school. They had a netware network there... It was fun finding all the security holes.

They only networks we had when I was at school was a BBC Eco-net , which was surplanted by a second hand set of RM 186 pc's on their own network .. It took 45 minuets to get started and have "Cascaid" loaded...

Netware merged into OpenEnterprise server running on SuSE enterprise.
Its still a good solution for mixed o/s environments.

It's less of a File service system now and more of on top product.

    Iprint, Zenworks, Bordermanager, Groupwise..

iPrint and Zenworks made our job doable, without them we would never have had time to develop anything. And the price for what we had, Netware (as many servers as we wanted) , Groupwise, and Zenworks with unlimited clients.. Was ~£1400 per annum.

PConsole - excellent. I always thought the documentation was really good, and it looked impressive, all those red books on the shelf.
Our first SIMS system ran on Netware back in the DOS days: later we ran a Windows setup with the workstations booting from rom and downloading windows from the server into their huge 4Meg of RAM.
all on coax ethernet: we couldn't afford structured cabling, so everything was daisy chained around the office, where someone always disconnected a lead or lost the terminating resistor and stopped the network.
Those were the days - proper networking: none of this patch panel and wiring cabinet malarky !!

When I started here ( as a totaly different organisation in old buildings ) 1998, it was Netware 4.x I hardly touched it at all for a year it was the admin network and I did not even have a workstation on it. ( that was on 10base-2 )

Then we put in structured cabling and Netware 5.x and I had to teach myself everything about it.
