Photocopyer leasing
Hi,
I have not long taken over as Network manager in a secondary school and have been given the task of finding a new company who would be able to lease photocopiers. We are currently using Canon but we would very much like to move away from them and the uniflow system that they use. I have read a couple of suggestions about the software we could use but would like some ideas about the photocopiers.
The photocopiers are currently being used for photocopying and printing(the scanning ability is not working and not needed at the moment)
We currently have 9 around the school however we are looking to cut down the numbers.
Thanks

2nd December 2011, 03:47 PM #2 We lease our photocopiers from Konica Minolta and have a print management solution call SafeQ.
The users can log on to the photocopiers to print/scan and they can be setup to print direct.
It also does follow me printing, so you print to a central que then go to any photocopier and print out your work. The scanning works great well, it gives the option to print to the users home directory or e-mail them an attachment of the file.

That sounds pretty much like the system we have now which in theory sounds great. Shame we have lost all confidence in canon.
Can you add all the network printers into the system as well?
All our students print to network printers but all the budgeting is done by uniflow still.

2nd December 2011, 04:07 PM #4 I use Equitrac Express for the print management (with mifare cards for print release)
(nearly) all our photocopiers and printers are Ricoh (the software can handle pretty much any manufacturer), and I pay per copy
Our existing supplier was taken over by Sharp so I expect I'll be buying Sharp devices in the future rather than more Ricohs when the contract comes up for renewal.

The uni I worked at before I started here were using Konica Minoltas, but they were using PCounter software for print management.

We're with Danwood for copiers/printers, and running Papercut to manage it all.

2nd December 2011, 04:54 PM #8 Papercut MF for print/copy tracking (off the glass, and from all your network printers) and then Ricoh copiers. Used that combo if two different places and it works well

2nd December 2011, 11:34 PM #9 We use Konica Minolta for our main/bulk printers and a few departments still hold onto their own printers and we also use the pCounter software to control the back end(print amounts are limited to pupils on a set recurring amount each month) and it is good for internal billing, giving each department their monthly breakdowns on their costs.

We use Toshiba machines and PaperCut MF for charging/tracking. We have only had the system in a month now, but we have found both the machines and software very good.
We use the follow me printing for PaperCut which allows staff/pupils to collect their prints from any machine.
Our tender is with Arena.

6th December 2011, 09:31 AM #12 Toshiba eStudio MFD devices with Pcounter for us. I spoke to our LA ICT team & they have an Authority-wide contract with United Carlton so we were able to take advantage of the LA contract pricing.

6th December 2011, 09:42 AM #13 Completely understand the desire to move away from Canon! We only have a few MFDs and they are Konica Minoltas all managed by our Print Room. They are aren't used by students and as far as I'm aware they use whatever print management software comes with them.
I have had very little dealing with MFDs, other than inheriting someone else's screw ups and attempting to sort it out, but from that I can certainly confirm our Print Room's assertion that "All photocopier salesman are sharks". I can also further confirm their assertion that you have to make sure everything is in the contract and that it is completely unambiguous.

6th December 2011, 09:57 AM #14 I'm interested in how much everyone is paying for their MFD contracts
I just started another thread:
What are you paying for photocopier leasing?

Can highly recommend Arena, our copiers are all with Arena and I only use them as the service is excellent and we are always well supported by them.
