The American TV Networks are absolute tosh right now. They give everything one series to be a cult classic and if not it gets canned. A bit of a Sci-Fi buff me, but in the last 4 years they have cancelled truely excellent shows including:

    Alcatraz
Stargate Universe (after series 2, which was brilliant)
    The Event
    Flash Forward

And what do we still have: Scripted Reality...

Would have to agree but it took one or two series into the show to make it better!

I almost forgot this one - what about 'The Prisoner'? That enigmatic '60s series with the acerbic Patrick Mcgoohan. The remake, set in a desert, was so dire I lost interest after two or three episodes.

I cannot believe you left Firefly off that list

(although to be fair that was more than four years ago, but it still hurts)

It is also true that America is very conservative...for instance over there OMG usually stands (and in the days of early chatrooms always stood) for Oh my gosh/goodness as using the name of God is considered too much for their puritanical tastes...

If you want an indication of how staid their television is just look at the reaction of US guests on the Graham Norton Show...they generally can't believe what they are allowed to get away with over here and many of them positively revel in the new found freedom to say what they like...freedom of speech anyone?
It's the same when they have US guests on shows like HIgNfY, 8 Out of Ten Cats and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. The looks on their faces after 5 mins when the shows get into full swing are often a picture.

Personally I am liking The Newsroom at the minute. Anyone else seen it?

I think you are right. If I had never heard of The Inbetweeners I think I'd probably like this. I can't imagine it being as crude as the UK version.

I know, it was one that had so much going for it. Especially as it was done by the same people behind Lost!!!!

And Firefly, yes I know that was an awesome series. There are talks about Joss Weadon doing it again now he made uber millions with Avengers.

Tumbleweed time hey Well if you get the chance and liked the West Wing you will like this as it is Aaron Sorkin's new project and stars Jeff Daniels (of Dumb and Dumber fame)

I'm sorry, Alcatraz was AWFUL. I hated it. LeBoyfriend and I gave it a good chance and Sky+ed it but after the first 5 episodes we realised it REALLY wasn't getting any better and ditched it.

Personally I don't like either the UK or US 'Office'

We thought Newsroom looked funny but the first 5 minutes of the first episode were enough to make me scream 'TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF TURN IT OFF' at LeBoyfriend - there is something about people all shouting over each other that makes me want to physically vomit. I actually had to leave the room.
