23rd November 2011, 11:25 AM #4 @RabbieBurns no it is usually air force helecopters falling out of the sky thanks to shoddy matinence and the usual spates of theivery http://www.edugeek.net/forums/behind...ng-season.html
Someone clipping some rope with their helecopter is pretty rare thankfully.

Depending on the model the fuel tank almost certainly had an emergency cut off that automaticlly triggered and it may even have had an inert gas in the free space of the fuel tank to prevent accidents. You could here the turbine going nuts for a while burning off the fuel still in the lines and as it was decoupled from the rotor it wound up quite nicely. The gas tanks are also usually extremely tough and sometimes coated in an absorbant foam layer that gums up any leaks that may occour. All depends on the type of helecopter though.
