to keep wool/string/fisherman wire etc from tangling by wrapping it around the device.
Part of a spit roasting linkage.

Ferret prodder.

A really bad model of a Girraffe?
An IProd?

It looks like an electronic conductor pin used in old machinery..would love to have it in person to actually tell you

Thinking logically, its cast, a soft or mixed metal or something as its tarnished. There is a lot of corrosion or deposit on the one end so ill assume both are the same.
Wild guess a transmission axle or similar with what looks like a slight reduction.
wow that is rather geeky sounding lol

Is it a stool for a stool? Stand it up on end and then a stool can sit on the stool's stool legs.
You can be wild and put a stool's stool on a stool's stool to seat a stool. Any more than that though and the stool is just gonna fall off and break.
Definitely an axle of some type and it wouldn't have been a very big wheel - the two ends are exactly the same and look like they were once embedded into a material which has since rotted away, the tips look like they were beaten/hammered.
Hang on it's not an ancient pizza box lid holder is it?

I was gonna say an axel from an old toy car.
