SDO zoomed in on this active region to watch as plasma streamed back and forth above it over two days (Apr. 30 - May 2, 2011). Magnetic forces are pulling the material along magnetic field lines. We are observing the ionized Helium at about 60,000 degrees C. in extreme ultraviolet light.
This is a demonstration of the powerful magnetic fields that surround The Sun.
