I admire my colleagues believing nature but being of a slightly more cynical mindset I just can't see how the water’s surface tension alone would keep it in shape so I’m saying 100% fake!

I too cool foul as in my mind the spinning would disrupt the surface tension, not create it. Must be someone's video editing showcase or a viral for something.

Would love to be proved wrong though.

While cool, quite fake. The closest I can come to a description would be to look at a whirlpool. The water tries to go out, forming the whirlpool, this is the water trying to pull itself in.

Fake. Water cannot hold shape like this except where there is no gravity. Surface tension alone would cause its "structure" to collapse in on itself.

Fake. Definition of liquid - takes the shape of its container. Clever though!

I think it's just a clever trick to get 15 year olds to flood their parents kitchens.

Won't do it in zero gravity either. In zero gravity, with no other force acting on it, any liquid will form a sphere - it won't hold any shape it had from a container once the container is removed.

    Cool video though.

It works better if you twist counter clockwise in the northern hemisphere, and clockwise in the southern......

Hey, I just tried it after drinking half a bottle of Jack Daniels and guess what?!

My wife thinks I'm a complete jackass and we have a very clean kitchen floor.

main thing of it being fake (apart from the physics aspect!!) is that he said when you remove the card you get a bit of spillage, but when he removed the cup the surface was spotless. he also twisted the cup VERY fast in the successful one and slowly in the failed ones, hinting at it being edited. plus his finger doesn't actually touch the water for it to collapse, he just moves near it.

very good editing though, and i agree its probably aimed at kids who will "try, try again" to get this working in their kitchens at home as a joke

Just a thought, but maybe it's not video editing. Maybe he has added something to the water to give it a thicker skin sort of, thus being able to hold it's shape but still looks like water?
