Eeek - I remember the day it launched as well!

And for IT nostalgia fans - remember when Yahoo! looked like this:

I'm old (in internet years), I recall my home page as this:
![]()
What on earth is that? It looks like teletext or those systems travel agents use!

Cheers, that's pretty amazing considering when it was released... then again, dogpile impressed me back in the day...

Eee, young folk today, they know nowt :-)
It is like Teletext and it's exactly like the viewdata systems some travel agents use(d) (do any still use it??)
It's what we had before the internet; you received data at 1200 baud (so up to 10 seconds for the whole screen to be drawn) and data was transmitted back to the other end at 75 baud (but you did little more than type numbers so that wasn't too big a deal)
It wasn't always reliable (as is the case with everything that uses modems) and I seem to remember it was quite expensive (unlike the French Minitel).
I never knew it was that old though, the teletext i've seen and played with (remember Bamboozle[d]?) used to be pretty quick!
Thomas Cook have those systems, they run within a console window/dos box
Prestel, god that brings back memories.
The Internet is still Arpanet to me.
I remember sending a mail (snail mail) to some guy in the states to get an ip address lol

I'd love to look at the link but apparently it might be educational:

Bamboozle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - ah, I remember that![]()
