14th January 2010, 08:08 PM #2 I rather enjoy listening to the podcast on fridays and have managed to collect most of the available ones from the bbc site (before they moved everything around).
I quite liked the Telstar attempt on the stylophone last week too

I liked QoS, though it wasn't a patch on CR. Totally agree about the bobbins theme, but not many of the films since the mid-Moore period have had themes you could instantly remember. "Octopussy", anyone? As for not knowing what the movie was about - it's pretty much the same plot as "Goldfinger", though you only find out what the "substance" is late in the film. The title surely refers to both the Quantum organization and the "quantum" (ie amount) of solace that Bond will gain tracking down his lover's killers? Guess he was too busy formulating his rant to pay attention.

OK, by no means a "good" film, but surely it was never meant to be? Anybody who bothered to make the effort to see any of the trailers and then went to the cinema got exactly what was advertised: Didn't like it? Why (unless, like Kermode, you were getting paid to be there) did you bother to go?
I do get his point about Ms Fox, but being the slowmo babe is what she has based her career on. Hopefully, in his newly-appointed role as the new Mary Whitehouse, Kermode is also giving a good kicking to "Grease" ("slut yourself up to get a man") and the (seemingly sacrosanct amongst film critics) "The Godfather" ("Hey! They might kill, blackmail, rob etc etc, but the mafia are basically a family at heart").
