Though I'm not sure about the third one.. kinda makes it sound like Linux is something dirty...

7th January 2009, 04:20 PM #4 Yup.. balanced though. "requires tons of experience" vs. "is well virus-protected" - both wrong, but for totally different reasons.

7th January 2009, 04:26 PM #5 It's the ones saying 'well, i don't know what it's like now, but when I tried it X years ago, it was really complicated' that always make me laugh. People are so used to the multi-year release cycle of Windows, they don't understand that new versions of Linux distro's are released constantly, and as such, a version from 2 years ago is barely the same as a version available now. But then, at the same time, they're happy to install endless cd's worth of things rather than using a simple repository of software.

7th January 2009, 04:29 PM #7 @localzuk: Agree. Two years ago even Ubuntu meant saying hello to the prompt quite often, but Intrepid hardly needs it all (unless, like me, you prefer it to any gui).
The great barrier to good market penetration now, besides the usual problem of "it asked me instead of assuming, and I didn't know what to answer", is perception.
