That'll teach him to leave it in Liverpool. Scally's have had the wheels already.

Apparently Ferrari doesn't like Nyan cats.

Ferrari Hates DeadMau5's Nyan Cat Car, Sends Cease And Desist

While Deadmau5's fans loved his "Purrari," the Ferrari he tricked out with a Nyan cat theme, the Italian car maker was not a fan.

Ferrari sent the electronic music producer, famous for wearing a mouse-head helmet during shows, a cease and desist letter regarding his decorated Ferrari 458 Spider, which he put up for sale for $380,000 earlier this summer.

Ferrari took the most offense to his custom badges and floor mats with Purrari logos, he told Twitter followers.

Biggest issue here is Ferrari. They are well known morons, I would never knowingly hand any money to the mafioso idiots. They're worse than Apple, and that takes some doing. Just like their F1 team, they would think nothing of offing someone who displeases them.

He didn't just paint it, he re-branded the product by changing the badges. Any brand has little choice but to protect it's products and it's identity. If you don't actively protect your brand, you effectively lose it.

If you buy some HP printers, stick your own badge on them and then resell them as "Hach Pee", you will get a snotty letter from HP. Why is this any different?

Nothing is being resold. This is no different to buying an Escort and having the letters rearranged to say Sorted. (as a real world example)

Which may get you a letter from Ford.

Seriously? *hundreds* did it and there has never been a single letter from Ford.

And frankly once you've spent £large on something, it's yours. Sod them! As said, Ferrari are utter, utter morons and always have been.

If the guy was buying them in bulk, doing the customisation and selling them on after that, you may have a point. If he was buying Nissan Primeras, making them up to look like Ferraris with Nyancat decals then selling them on as Ferraris, you'd definitely have a point.

However this guy has customised one and is now selling it. It's still a Ferrari. He isn't selling a Nissan as a Ferrari. As synaesthesia says, the thing is now his, he can do what he damn well likes with and Ferrari shouldn't be getting their knickers in a knot about it.

Yes, seriously. It probably never came to the attention of the people that take these things seriously :-).

Maybe, but not IMO for seeking to protect their brand and product identity. That brand is what makes a £1 T shirt sell for £50. That 458 is a recognised product, you can't just stick another badge on it and call it "synaesthesia".

I suspect the the basis of the "Cease and Desist" was that he was selling a "Ferrari 428" as a "Purrari".

Perhaps if I offer some of his albums for resale under my own comic naming, that would be OK?
