Oops! Missed that one. The caption on the youtube video says "tries to snatch toddler" but to be fair, it did snatch it. It just couldn't hang on. They say kids are overweight but I think a few extra pounds might have saved this one's life!

Definitely fake. Not in a million years could a bird pick a toddler up.

I would disagree with you there!

It seems a Golden Eagle could potentially carry 3 times its own weight. The size of the eagle in the film would suggest it's fully grown and could easily lift a toddler. The toddler may only be 20-30lbs. This is well within the limits to pick up....but not light enough to get away with?

If it was fake, I think they'd have gone further and had the eagle actually fly away with the toddler. Looks totally legit to me...

The eagles that nest in the tree by my house are bigger than anything I've ever seen, and have been known to take salmon upto 20lbs from the river, so a toddler wouldn't be a problem for a bird that size. This summer several people lost their dogs to eagles around here...

Considering in Mongolia eagles are used for hunting elk/reindeer, foxes/wolves/other small animals and dragging them/carrying them along (and I have seen a fair few documentaries on said subject and how it is "barbaric"), it is entirely plausible that an eagle could pick up a small child.

Also, for a fake, it is one of the best I have seen considering they got the shadows to match up perfectly.

Wait a minute -- supposing two Eagles carried it together? Using a strand of creeper held under the dorsal guiding feathers?

I'm disappointed in you all for not using more of the Monty Python reference! (Apart from gmj! )

GUARD #1: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
ARTHUR: Not at all, they could be carried.
    GUARD #1: What -- a swallow carrying a coconut?
ARTHUR: It could grip it by the husk!
GUARD #1: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple
question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a 1 pound
    coconut.
ARTHUR: Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master
that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here.
GUARD #1: Listen, in order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow
needs to beat its wings 43 times every second, right?
    ARTHUR: Please!
    GUARD #1: Am I right?
    ARTHUR: I'm not interested!
GUARD #2: It could be carried by an African swallow!
GUARD #1: Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European
    swallow, that's my point.
GUARD #2: Oh, yeah, I agree with that...
ARTHUR: Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court
    at Camelot?!
GUARD #1: But then of course African swallows are not migratory.
    GUARD #2: Oh, yeah...
GUARD #1: So they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway...
    [clop clop]
GUARD #2: Wait a minute -- supposing two swallows carried it together?
GUARD #1: No, they'd have to have it on a line.
GUARD #2: Well, simple! They'd just use a standard creeper!
GUARD #1: What, held under the dorsal guiding feathers?
    GUARD #2: Well, why not?
