I've setup Wordpress in the past that let lots of children contribute to one blog, and it used catagories to seperate different types of writing (it was for a primary sharing writing)
I'm now wanting to do some blogging at my new school, but I'd like to have lots of different blogs (for different subjects / teachers / classes) and allow one set of users to post content on any of them.
Anyone done this before?
This is easiest done through a multi-site wordpress site. There are some really good examples out there from folk like David Mitchell up at Heathfield Primary in Bolton Heathfield CPS Blogs or Ian Addison in Hampshire Ian Addison's Blog
The other local one for you to look at is BLT Network | Better Learning using Technologies which has a heap of sites for different schools, or speak with Chris Leach C h r i s L e a c h : who did the Gunpowder, Treason & Plot series at his school (another independent school, over Brackley way).
The Multi Site Wordpress site doesnt mention if you can have one set of users who can post across different sites in the network thingy. Can it?
I've just done this with Wordpress 3 for our media students.
One blog installation and the Multisite setup and configured, useraccounts can then be allocated permissions to post/manage which ever blogs you like within that Network.
Edit: Here's the guide I followed, since the domain is held by the LA we used the sub-directories and not wildcard dns, but works brilliantly. http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
