openSUSE + SWGfL
Hello,
Recently we've been setting up a new Moodle server to use for our English department. We've tried using Windows and LDAP doesn't seem to play nice, nor do themes... Hence we're going to try a linux install seeing as that's where PHP and MySQL seem to do most of their work. The problem we are facing however is that while we've installed openSuSE 11.3, we can not connect to anything outside our Server VLAN. Pinging Google's DNS servers doesn't work, however when we go to test the proxy, it can resolve the hostname without fail but will not connect to the IP address. Has anybody else had any experience with this? We have specified the proxy in the YaST control center and in Firefox, and in FireFox we're told that the proxy is refusing connections.
The settings in the YaST control center under proxy are :
*Use this for all proxy connections (ticked)
FTP (greyed out)
HTTPS (greyed out)
Proxy Authentication

This is on a Hyper-V server, and all other VMs on the server are working just fine.
The student working with me on this will join EduGeek shortly and will have the username JakeHendy.
Many thanks and help, please!

Okay well I'm guessing that it's something to do with Suse then, as I'm running a Fedora 14 LiveCD from my laptop and it's working just fine! The mysteries of linux!

Have you set your ICP to zero .. IE disabled? that might make a difference

Thanks for the reply Brpilot99.
I'm with Mr Bondi next lesson so I'll have a look around. I've read that openSuSE on Hyper-V doesn't play very nicely so it might just be that. Just have to wait and see, I'll report back!

No problem and good luck .. I looked at all of the linux types and ended up with Ubuntu ... no main reason really but the information and setup guides seemed to be pretty good ... Ive got it installed and working with dansguardian/squid (as a test) and it talks to our isp (swgfl) without problems

Hey! I set up a fedora image on my laptop in school and it works just fine on our Student VLAN... However when I went to install this over openSuSE my memory stick wouldn't read on the server and the disk wouldn't either. Yay :). So I'm prepping an VHD to copy over.
Thanks for your help Brpilot99 :)
