It happened yesterday; perfect all day, smooth as silk. Come 9pm - bang, off it went.
I've seen this happen with hot water / heating systems kicking in, along with badly shielded fairy lights at Christmas as well as the usual street lamps coming on.
When does it come back out of interest?
I have to ring tech support and complain that the fault still presents, they pass that along to the engineers and sometime later (maybe) it reconnects. Been off now since 9 last night! I'm not holding my breath.
BT will have the line back on 20th May and then I'll order a new service; don't fancy Sky as I'd prefer something with freephone or local rate tech support calls.
Interesting... Are you maintaining a single ticket/dialogue with them over this as I'd be expecting a decent answer if it's happened several times now.
Does your other phone line come in the same route/cabling as this one? It'd be interesting to see what happens when the plusnet line goes live whether it's affected as the most noted difference in conditions would be at the Exchange end where your Bulldog line is connected to one of their DSLAMs rather than a BT one.
Only problem is though, if you want an ADSL2+ package you're limited to what you can get .. :/
I recommend PlusNet, UK support based in Sheffield, local rate number that you can call them on (0114), very helpful, provide a dial up service incase your ADSL goes down. Can't fault them, in the 6 or so years I have been using them had a few little niggles but soon got them sorted and usually working within the hour.
My parents are with Plusnet and it's been fine but as he wants ADSL2+ (in order to secure upto 24mbit/s packages) he's limited.
True but thought I would recommend them!
i recommend O2, im paying 12.50 for a static IP with 20meg down (i get 18mb on average) and 1.4mb up, freephone support....and discounted if you or anyone you know has an O2 mobile!!
and you actually get to speak to 3rd line support if you let them know that you 'know' whats going on.
o2 on llu isn't an option for the OP.
I'm hoping the Plusnet service will be a good and reliable stop-gap, albeit only at 8 meg.
The cable run for the other line is on the same multi-pair so, yes, it will be interesting to see what happens when Plus goes live.
O2 isn't available on my exchange, not the 20 meg service anyway :-( The standard service is expensive for what it is even with the customer discount.
It does seem that the only max service option I have is Sky! We seem to be in tin-can + string country here.
Well, the Bulldog service is still off and I've just sent them a string of blistering emails, little good that it'll do I'm sure. The Plusnet service should be live at the weekend and then I have until 20th May to wait for BT to take over the Bulldog LLU line. After that I'll see what service to go for at that time. Or maybe I'll manage with the Plus service until O2 is available (March '10?)
Cost dependent you could consider bonding your two lines together....
Still get a lot of good feedback for Plusnet as well as the likes of Zen Internet. Not heard too much about bonded lines as yet - interested to know what's involved in that too.
Two approaches, back in the day we used to do it with 2 usb modems and a linux box but there's dual wan routers in production that can do it.
Plusnet didn't appear at the end of last year to support it but they were trialing it as can be found in this thread.
I am aware of some ISPs which still offer it but it tends to be more upmarket than your average home user especially with ADSL2+ on the cards giving far superior speeds without the added expense.
Tech support, complaints and customer service are all ignoring my emails and calls now.
The ADSL is down and has been since Sunday evening.
Not best pleased right now! :mad:
