IP range Exception
I am trying to create an IP range exception within smoothwall. Basically I have some machines that are in a particular IP range and although I want these machines to be able to access the Internet and be filtered as usual I do not want users to receive the authentication challenge box.
Please could you let me know how I can do this?
Im in the same boat here, but I want one IP range to be able to have completely unfiltered connections.
I believe from googling it you have to vontact smoothwall and the have to define your normal IP Range amd then you will have the ability to add specific exception ranges etc !
is it a proper smoothwall or express? i've never used express so this applys to proper smoothwall.
you need to define locations, which you can based on the ip range/subnet
you then create guardian policies and proxy authentication policies
when you create the polices it has [ who, where, when, what ] you need to add the location you created in the what you also need to look at the other policies that already exist to check your not duplicating or applying conflicting rules.
I found this link:
Smoothwall - Non Domain and BYOD - Recommendation
If you scroll down and have a look at Solution B. I have just tested it and it works really well you just have to use a different port number than your standard one. We use 8080 for everyone apart from machines in a particular IP range we use 800.
The only downside is it will only log traffic as an IP address. For us its not a problem as our iPads are on a booking system so we know who has got one at any one time.
