Chrome MSI Install Hang
Hi,
I have done a search but can't find an answer to my query.
At the moment we install Google Chrome to our main ICT Rooms in the school.
We do this using the Enterprise Standalone MSI and apply it using Group Policy. The problem is ... on install it hangs on the "Installing Managed Software Google Chrome". It does install eventually but does put a lot of time on top of our build process.
I know a few other people have experienced this problem, but does anyone have a solution to make the install time shorter?
Many Thanks in advance
Tom

17th January 2012, 12:53 PM #2 This is due to the way Google Chrome tries to look for an update on install. To fix this, you need to apply an MST to disable that function.
See here msiexec and rolling out via AD - Google Chrome for Business

18th January 2012, 03:06 PM #5 Now obviously that edit disables Google update altogether. Can I edit it so that it only disables it on installation?
We would rather it update automatically when on the machine, saves us a lot of work of having to keep updating it.
Thanks

A GPO should be able to re-enable it.

Thank you
Would that just be a case of the GPO enabling the the setting that we have disabled earlier on?

18th January 2012, 04:27 PM #8 Check that your users who still use Internet Explorer to access the BBC iPlayer (if you allow it in your school) can still do so.
We found that after Chrome was installed it broke some parts of IE..!
Most strange, but true!
