    EdExcel ESM through Smoothwall

    Hello,

My Edexcel ESM won't connect to EdExcel www.catglobal.com (ports 80 or 443) through Smoothwall. I've added proxy exception for the site and firewall outgoing rule for the ESM server - it's made no difference.

I've entered the proxy details in the IE settings and the ESM options on the ESM server, and can browse the web from it.

I've contacted EdExcel and verified it's a connection issue.

    Help!

    Thanks.

To get it to work here. I had to set the proxy details and port 801 in the ESM Server.

If it still doesn't work add the IP of the server to Smoothwall - Guardian - Proxy - Web Proxy - Exception local IP addresses.

Thanks Mike, you got me on the right track.

    Full solution was:-

In Smoothwall: guardian » web filter policies » exceptions - add ESM server's IP to Source exception IP addresses
In ESM server proxy settings - use port 801, no auth credentials needed.

After doing the above, ESM was still producing an error on logon. I phoned EdExcel, they said my ESM was too old to update. They talked me through manually uninstalling it, deleting files and reg keys, and installing the latest version from EdExcel's web site.

    All working now.
