    Controlling web based email

    Good Morning,

With the likes of web based email now having web based chat applications, could I do a quick survey and ask what your policy is on accessing Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo etc.

Is it a complete blanket ban on everyone or do you allow teachers access to their personal email etc?

Our policy is that the school provided e-mail is the only one allowed for pupils. All webmail is blocked.
For staff, we allow general webmail access.

Our school policy which is backed by the HT is that only the school e-mail is used by the staff and students for school and that is the only e-mail service they can access in school.

It is up to the individual if they want to use their school account as their private account also.

Complete block (where possible) of all services such as this - although our machines can actually got on these sites as we occasionally get the need to be able to let a student login to get details of bullying etc

We allow all of them but staff must use their staff accounts for school stuff as we are not there to support everyones iffy choices of mail providers and we like our confidential data to stay that way.

My old School was block all webmail to all users (staff and students) - and use only College email systems.

New school, students are blocked and we are consulting on staff at the moment.

Only staff can access their personal e-mail accounts.

All access by students was removed a year or two ago after a 6 month notice period.
