Google Apps EDU | Message Archiving
We have rolled out Google Apps Edu in our school (approx. 600 users) for docs & email. So far it works great, and a huge improvement over our previous homegrown mail system (postfix/squirrelmail).
Now I need to think about an archiving system for messages and (possibly) docs. Google/Postini sells their own solution and there are a bunch of other solutions offered by third party vendors. It seems you can spend as much as you want on such a system.
Does anyone have a recommendation or warning about any of these? Thanks -

15th November 2010, 09:03 AM #2 Sorry to bump an old thread but i am now in the same situation. I am currently testing Goggle Apps to replace our current email system and the question of archiving has come up. My question is do we need to have an email archive? Is it a legal requirement for schools? I know business' have lots things to deal with when it comes to this but as a school do we have anything to follow?
The archive systems i've seen are massively expensive and on a cost side more than our entire current system.
Anyone?

15th November 2010, 09:05 AM #3 Do you mean like journaling where it keeps a copy of all e-mails in another inbox?

15th November 2010, 09:15 AM #4 Yes, our current email system sends all mail onto a single inbox. To be honest it's never been used for anything other the last 8 years but if we dont have one will it come back to bite me.

15th November 2010, 09:44 AM #5 I think you need it by law. It would be nice to know how to do this.
With Google Apps education you get free support. Have you tried contacting them?
Thanks

15th November 2010, 11:44 AM #6 I am only using a standard account at the moment during the testing phase so cannot get the free support. Google do offer a message archiving system at a generous 66% discount to schools but at $60+ per user this is still not cheap enough option.

15th December 2010, 09:24 AM #13 Just to help you out. Found this "Log All Email for Sendmail in CentOS 5"
Do you ever wanted to copy each and every incoming and outgoing email in Sendmail automatically to a single email acccount transparently? Thanks to Axel Reinhold’s logall.c module. Now, we can do it. In the below HOWTO, we will configure Sendmail to copy each and every incoming and outgoing email to an email account called “logall”.
