YouTube safety mode
It seems YouTube have developed "Safety Mode" which blocks blacklisted keyword searches and hides comments by default (blocking out offensive words when these are manually shown).
With this in mind are SM planning to add functionality that will enforce Safety Mode for YouTube and is anyone planning on unblocking YouTube for either staff and/or students following these changes?

Will it also block videos/links that are sent in from home by email where they can search on whatever keywords they wish? Will it also have a filter that stops kids wasting time during lessons watching the goals from last night's game etc? Until they do, it will remain blocked here I suspect.

anyone got a clue how this could be applied throughout a school?

We already give access to youtube to all of our staff for T & L access.
If smoothwall could integrate something like this where it redirects to the safe search that would be useful as I am a little wary of some of the comments posted on some pages.

A safe-mode force is in test. It won't help for embedded vids unfortunately, as they are not supported for safe mode by youtube. We haven't found the safesearch to be particularly wonderful, but its a great start. Hopefully we can get in touch with youtube and see if we can make things better together.
