although we currently run smoothwall (free version with DG) currently 360 days uptime due to some power tripping out in the server room!

which reminds me tom, any chance of a demo to our SLT and a bod from our new college's project team? PM me if its possible and i'll provide some contact details (Im pretty sure someone phoned me after bett but cant remember who, was half way out the door heading to a 4hour meeting yippee)

I wish I had the go ahead to get SmoothWall... it looks very, very comprehensive.

We use a Sophos WS1000... it's OK, it's just not that flexible.

We have used a CachePilot, that was dire++

OpenDNS is a potentially free option but not very customisable & not really a filter but offers some filtering.

We use A Barracuda 410 Webfilter appliance. Until late this let week we had some issues with filtering by Ldap syncronization with Active Directory, but after some time on the phone with their tech support folks, it's working very well. We migrated from Smoothwall.

    Another happy smoothwall customer here

Well, until May anyway with RM taking over in September, I doubt SLT will renew - hell they cant even agree to get 50 additional licences [at reduced rate too!] then complain cos the staff can access facebook, etc...

    Hi Runcmd

I just wanted to say, which is hopefully useful to other members, that CensorNet v3.x hasn't been updated since 2006. It is end of life and no longer in development as an open source project. There is a migration path to the new version if people are interested. There are still many people that use it and we have kept the web site live for reference and historical reasons. It is based on an old version of Debian which no longer receives security updates so it should not be used in production if at all possible.

    Kind regards,

    Tim

We're on RM Safetynet here. It's OK, but if I had a choice (and I don't, sorry Tom) I'd be with Smoothwall.

@Grommit: Will check it. Thanks. Are you sure you haven't got games sites allowed at lunchtime or some such by mistake?
